Circumcision
Surgical removal of the foreskin, indicated for phimosis, recurrent balanoposthitis, paraphimosis or on religious/cultural grounds. Performed at any age from infancy to adulthood.
Symptoms
A tight, non-retractile foreskin, ballooning of the prepuce during urination, recurrent inflammation, painful erections, or discomfort during intercourse in adults.
Recent advances in management
Laser circumcision — using a CO₂ or diode laser — has become the technique of choice. It is virtually bloodless, seals nerve endings for less post-operative pain, needs no stitches, and gives a clean, cosmetic result with a return to work in 48 hours.
